HIV-AIDS is a Worldwide Problem

Health, prosperity, and economy are some important aspects that government should think about but I believe that the most important thing of those three aspects is the people’s health. It is because nowadays there are many viruses that attacks people’s health; for example, mumps, chicken pox and measles, even a common cold. Otherwise, the most dangerous virus that attacks human is HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). It causes Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). AIDS is one of the deadliest epidemics in human history. It was first identified in 1981 among homosexual men and intravenous drugs users in New York and California. Shortly after its detection AIDS quickly develop into a worldwide epidemic, affecting virtually every nation. The United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) estimates that the worldwide number of new cases of HIV infection peaked in the late 1990s with more than three million people newly infected each year. However, some regions of the world, especially Vietnam, Indonesia and other countries in Southeast Asia continued to see an increase in the early 2000s. Well, maybe some people think that there are many aspects which support the development of AIDS. However, I believe that there are only two basic aspects, health and social, which makes AIDS become a worldwide problem.

The first aspect is health aspect. AIDS can become a worldwide problem because there are too many ways that makes HIV infections spread, for instance: sexual intercourse with an infected person, contaminated blood, and transmission from an infected mother to her child before or during birth or through breast-feeding. The first way, HIV transmission occurs most commonly during intimate sexual contact with an infected person, including genital, anal, and oral sex. The second way, direct contact with HIV-infected blood occurs when people who use heroin or other injected drugs share hypodermic needles or syringes contaminated with infected blood. Sharing of contaminated needles among intravenous drugs users has been a primary cause of HIV infection in ports of Eastern Europe and central Asia. Then the third way, HIV can be transmitted from an infected mother to her baby while the baby is still in the woman’s uterus. The virus can also be transmitted through the mother’s breast milk during breast-feeding. That are some example ways that makes AIDS become a worldwide problem.

Then, the second aspect is social aspect. Actually the social aspect is supporting the health aspect that I have explained. Well, I will give you an illustration; we are living in modern era with all of its social transformation, the people’s lifestyle is also changes, drugs abuse and free-sex are become usual lifestyle. The people in modern era are easy to stress because of all their full daily activity and; therefore, they are looking for some enjoyments such as drugs abuse and free-sex. Eventually, those enjoyments become their lifestyle and the lifestyle makes the spread of AIDS easier. The other social change is the people’s characteristic. In this era, people turn into individualistic person, they are no longer care to the others. They prefer to think and care about their own business; for example, when someone knows others who having drugs party he/she will prefer to abandon rather than to forewarn them. That is because; he/she thinks that is not his/her business and simply thinks that it is their right to have their own way.  For the result, those two examples of social change make the HIV become easier to contaminated people who live in this modern era.

As we discussed above, from the health aspect we know that sexual intercourse with an infected person, contaminated blood and transmission from an infected mother to her child before or during birth or through breast-feeding are the way how HIV infection spreads. All of that way makes AIDS development is swift. While from the social aspect we know that people’s free lifestyle and individualistic characteristic are the aspects that cause the HIV be easier to infect people. Finally, there is no suspicion to say that those two aspects are the basic cause to make HIV-AIDS become health universal problem all over the world.

“When You Believe” is a wonderful song which written by Kenneth Brian "Babyface" Edmonds (born April 10, 1958) and Stephen Schwartz. I think I was falling in love with this song, when I listen to this song at the first time. That is why, “When You Believe” becomes one of my favorite songs, also I have ever sung this song in one of singing competition and it makes me be the winner. This is such an inspiring and motivational song that tells of miracle that is: an action or event believed to be caused by God, which is impossible according to the ordinary laws of nature. Basically, this song means that everyone can feel and get miracle, if they keep their hope alive, have faith, love and just believe in miracle. Actually, this song does not have too much implicit meaning, but for further details I will give my own interpretation and interpret the meaning of each verse in this song.

(VERSE 1)
Many nights we pray
With no proof anyone could hear
And our hearts a hopeful song
We barely understood
Now we are not afraid
Although we know there's much to fear
We were moving mountains long
Before we know we could
Actually the word “we” in this song as O.S.T “The Prince of Egypt” is refers to Jewish slaves who wanted to be free from the Egyptians, but for general it can be refers to everyone who sing this song. Obviously, the first verse tells that they are keep pray and full of hope, no matter how difficult their condition (line 1-4). Also, they have no fear anymore because they have ever broken through the difficulties in their life before they expected to do that (line 5-8).

(VERSE 2)
In this time of fear
When prayer so often proves in vain
Hope seems like the summer birds
Too swiftly flown away
And now I am standing here
My heart's so full I can't explain
Seeking faith and speaking words
I never thought I'd say
The second verse tells what the singer feel when she is trap in a frightened situation. She feels that there is no answer for her prayer; as well her hope begins too quickly gone (line1-4). However, she tried to be strong and does not want to lose faith. Also, she tried to leave the past by no longer think about everything in her past (line 5-8).

(BRIDGE)
They don't always happen when you ask
And it's easy to give in to your fear
But when you're blinded by your pain
Can't see your way clear through the rain
Thought of a still resilient voice
Says love is very near
The bridge gives us more strength to rise from our weakness. Although the miracle (line 1 à they) do not always happen when we pray and we are not able to keep our hope (line 4), there is still one way to be strong and tough after our lowest conditions. The way is to be sure that there is love’s power which gives you a lot of pleasure and happiness (line 5-6).

(CHORUS)
There can be miracles when you believe
Though hope is frail it's hard to kill
Who knows what miracles you can achieve
When you believe
Somehow you will
You will when you believe
The chorus has clearest meaning among two verses and bridge. It has strong statement that there is no other way to achieve miracles, except believe in miracles. No matter whom you are, if you struggle to keep your hope alive you will get the miracles in your life. In addition, it tells us that hope is strong feeling which give you power to believe.

Then, when I think beyond, I can conclude that there is a correlation among faith, hope and love. When we lost our faith, there still a gleam of hope in our heart to bring us in resilient condition. Then, if we lost both of them, there is love which gives its power to turn on the faith and hope to just believe that there can be miracle. Hence, now these three remain: faith, hope and love; but the greatest of these is love. Well, this awesome song is indeed having a great meaning to motivate us. It tells us to be strong and tough people who never give up to breaking through any problems in our life. Therefore, we can achieve the miracle.

Men are like Wafers, Women are like Spaghetti

You may be curious about the title of this article, so I will explain it first. The title is not talking about both men and women physical characteristics, but their general attitude and the way in which they live their lives. “Men are like wafers”, it means men will live their lives inside “squares”. If you observed a wafer, you will realize that wafer consists of many squares that are separated from each other. Men’s mindset is dividing inside the “squares” which have only a problem in each. On the other hand, women are able to make connection between two or more problems with other problems in their lives. It is just like a plate of spaghetti. Have you ever observed spaghetti? You will see that every long thin piece of spaghetti is connecting each others. Then, in the following paragraph I want to say that men’s and women’s different mindset has a profound influence on their way in communication. However, the difference does not have to be a problem for the “wafer” and the “spaghetti”.
Both men and women are different in the way they communicate. Men usually begin their conversation if there is something important that need to share; also, they will not talk about something else if they talk about one particular topic in their one “square”. For example, when some “wafers” have a conversation about a motorcycle; they will always focus on the topic about motorcycle during their conversation. Unlike men, women do not only like to build a conversation, but also to connect some topics in one conversation. “Spaghetti” is able to connect a long thin piece of motorcycle with another piece of love or the other, within one conversation. Then, let me give you a simple example about that women’s unique way in conversation and I hope you can realize the differences.
One day, Agung and Alfian were having a light conversation. Agung said, “hi Alfian..do you know that Afgan has a new motorcycle?”. Alfian said, “Oh yeah... I have already known that since I met him in the parking lot this morning, don’t you think his new Absolute Revo is cool…? “Yes, I do agree with you, the design is elegant though it is simple, Revo looks stronger than Mio”, Agung replied. Then, if that conversation occurs on women, it will be different. Ica said “Hi Aci…do you know that Afgan has a new motorcycle?” “Oh yeah it is Revo, isn’t it? Oh my God, He looks more gorgeous with it. Do you think so?”,  Aci replied enthusiastically. “Hmm….yeah… but I still don’t like him because he is a smoker…I feel uncomfortable with the smoke smell”, said Ica. “Oh...  do not underestimate him...he is our senior...hmm...by the way does he have a girl friend?” “Ha-ha…yes he does, I think he has…please do not be broken heart”, Ica’s joke. Well, do you understand the difference between men and women in communication? The ability to connect some different topics in a conversation can be found easier in “spaghetti” than in “wafers”.
However, the different way in communication between men and women brings them in a problem, sometimes. That is why the last thing that I want to share is how to make a delicious combination of “wafers” and “spaghetti”. Maybe you know that men who like to stay in a one “square”, will get confused and tired to jump from one square to another when they chat with women who love to connect every long thin piece of their “spaghetti”. We cannot claim that the difference is a problem because we can make it more “delicious”. The “delicious combination” is being humble to be a good listener for your interlocutor. There should be love and respect in the communication between men and women; therefore, they can enjoy their conversation. Whoever you are, you can be a delicious “wafer” or “spaghetti” if you want to.
